Complications in atrial septal defect device closure.
Atrial septal defect (ASD) is a common congenital cardiac anomaly. Even though surgery is the gold standard, percutaneous device closure is gaining popularity because of the short learning curve, cosmetic advantage and relative safety. The long-term implications are open to question. We report here two cases where surgical intervention was required during attempted percutaneous closure and brie...
متن کاملCryptogenic stroke after percutaneous closure of an atrial septal defect.
We present the case of a patient who underwent a percutaneous secundum atrial septal defect (ASD II) closure with an undersized septal occluder device. One week and one month later she experienced two transient ischemic attacks. Three-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) revealed a residual patent foramen ovale (PFO) with a positive Valsalva bubble test. She underwent a second pro...
متن کامل[Massive intravascular haemolysis after percutaneous atrial septal defect closure].
We present a case of a 55 year-old female, who survived a complication of percutaneous closure of atrial septal defect never described before. Within the first day after treatment the device has dislodged and got stuck in the mitral valve apparatus. This has caused mitral insufficiency and massive haemolysis which resolved after interventional removal of the device.
متن کاملIntegrated Percutaneous Atrial Septal Defect Occlusion and Pulmonary Balloon Valvuloplasty
Introduction: Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) is one of the most common congenital heart diseases during childhood. Today, ASD closure is done by occlutech device via cardiac catheterization. ASD repair with transcatheter technique has shown high closure rate. However, coexistence of severe pulmonary stenosis and large defect in atrial septum is rare. When these two problems coexist, the result is i...
متن کاملCurrent perspectives in percutaneous atrial septal defect closure devices
In the last decade, percutaneous atrial septal defect (ASD) closure has become the treatment of choice in most clinical presentations of ASD. Percutaneous ASD closure has established procedural safety through operator experience and improved device structure and deliverability. There have also been advances in diagnostic capabilities. Devices have evolved from large bulky meshes to repositionab...
